Conversation Design guidelines

I led the creation and publication of Conversation Design guidelines for 3P developers creating Conversational Actions for Google Assistant.

Here’s the official blog post I wrote when we launched

Before there was an external guidelines site, we started with a more detailed, internal guidelines site for Google Assistant.

For both sites, I was the primary subject matter expert that contributed the most content to the website. I recruited additional subject matter experts to contribute additional content. And I reviewed the entire site with a senior designer (who wrote the first book on voice design).

In February, we decided to try to externalize our guidelines by Google I/O in May. This involved 1) auditing the internal site to determine what content was most appropriate for third parties, 2) reframing guidelines for Conversational Actions instead of Google Assistant, and 3) replacing all examples with demo Conversational Actions.

I managed a team of 3 content writers and 1 content strategist, and together we were able to launch ahead of our ambitious schedule.
